The Beauty Inside India Pt1

I really can not believe that I have been here a month already. The time has flown by even though I feel like I've been here forever and not in a bad way. Although I am here for work reasons I had been sure  to make time to visit some of India's amazing sights. For once I have done what I never do back home and allow myself to be a tourist.

My first week here some of my India work colleagues were kind enough to take us to visit India Gate, a war memorial built in memory of the 82000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who died during World War 1. It had finally hit me, even after being here for a few days already, I was in India. We went around dusk and with the lights used around this monument it really helped to emphasise it's beauty.

Since being here I have also been fortunate enough to visit Agra the home of the Taj Mahul and it's Red Fort. I now thoroughly know why this is named as one of the 7 wonders of the world. I was completely consumed and in awe of its amazing architecture and the story behind how it became. Standing in the middle of one of the world's greatest pieces of architectural history you can not help but feel some kind of emotion. Add to that sharing the experience with some amazing people, most of which I had not long known, all made for a truly unique and perfect day.

Our group left Delhi for Agra around 1am. Because we were so many we decided to hire a coach for the day which worked out approximately  £12.50 per person between 24 of us. We arrived just outside the Taj around 5:25 am and we're hoping to see the sunrise at 6am. However due to the time it took to buy our tickets, queue and go through security amongst other things we just missed it. Never the less on entering, the view was still well worth the 11pm wake up.

Every inch of the grounds has been so beautifully crafted all of which by hand. Our guide was quite comprehensive in he's talk of the history of the Taj of which is such a beautiful story of love. The marble it is made of is still in such amazing condition after all these hundreds of years and parts of which embedded with many precious stones.

By 9am our tour of the Taj had already come to an end but as we were leaving the grounds, apart from the vast amount of kids trying to sell us snow globes, we were met by a few other locals.

After some breakfast at a near by restaurant we were off to our second venue of the day the Red Fort. This was equally as breathtaking as the Taj with just as much history behind it.

I'm here for another 5 months and can not wait to explore so much more of India and to share my adventures with you. This week I'm hoping to finally get to visit the Lotus Temple situated in the south of Delhi so I look forward to sharing that with you soon.

Indian Dreams

As I prepare the last of my things for what can only be described as the trip of a lifetime too many thoughts emcompas my head. So many people have asked me how I'm feeling but if I'm totally honest I've been replying with the answers that I feel they want to hear and not how I'm actually feeling. Up until a week ago I'd been completely numb to the fact I was about to get on a plane and go and set up camp in a completely different country and culture.  It felt more like an out of body experience and that I was peering in on somebody else's life. This surely could not be me. This kind of thing happens to other people never to me. But indeed it was my life I was looking in on and it is me who has been chosen out of so many to assist in setting up a brand new store in a brand new market for one of the world's biggest high street fashion brands.

Queue mini breakdown of last weekend. The mix of a lot of alcohol, good friends and the realisation that I was about to leave my support unit behind for 6 whole months is enough to push any sane person with real feelings over the edge. It was however exactly what I needed to give me clarity and now begin to feel the real excitement and anticipation that I knew I should have been feeling a couple of weeks back. Now I'm just chomping at the bit to get on that plane and begin the next chapter of my life.

I can't wait to explore the wonders of India.  All this week I have been bombarding myself with countless YouTube videos of India and New Delhi. My sister was also kind enough to arrange a meet up with one of her work colleagues who actually grew up in Delhi and so got an inside scoop on what to expect and how to keep safe especially as a foreign woman.

The amount of support I have been receiving from loved ones has been quite overwhelming. My social media has not stopped with well wishers. I truly am blessed to have so many people who care about me in my life. For those who have asked and strongly suggesting I will be attempting to regularly document this part of my life's journey. I've even been convinced to give vlogging a go. This is very much going to be a time for trying many new things.

So now my visa application has been accepted the bags are pretty much packed. Just one or two more goodbyes and I'm good to go. India here I come.

A Year In My Steps

It's no big secret that my one big weakness is shoes. The purchase of a good pair of shoes is like a massive drugs rush. I get that same rush when I get home and try them on with half my wardrobe. I know its a sickness. But one I have no intention of getting help for any time soon.

Anyway here are a few of the shoes that have made their way into my collection over the last year.

Enjoy x

June Fitting Room Selfie Lookbook

Head to toe (H2T) H&M
I had a couple of work meetings in the West End yesterday at My Area Office and finished my work day on a real happy high, which is always awesome on a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon and thought why not have a peruse around some shops whilst I'm here. So there I am in Topshop having a wonder when low and behold I find myself in the fitting room with an arm full of goodies to try on. Now I'm not some 15-25 something, still living at home with some big ol' disposable income. Neither am I one of those daughters who are regularly tapping into the Bank Of Mum & Dad. I'm a big ass grown women who has a mortgage and pays all of her own bills. Therefore I do not have the funds to be buying up a whole hell of clothes so I can blog about them and not just bombard you with what I buy from work. So as I was taking a blatant selfie of the outfit I already had on so I could post it to my instagram a brilliant idea came to mind. Why not do lookbooks of fitting room selfies. That way I get to show you guys a whole heap of different outfits and looks without being evicted from my flat from not being able to pay my mortgage because I've bought too many clothes. So here it is, my first Selfie lookbook.

Duster waistcoat - Topshop everything else as before

Top - Topshop, Culottes - Topshop, Necklace - H&M, Sandals - H&M, Bangles - H&M
All as before
Lace Blouse - Topshop, everything else as before

Culottes Jumpsuit - Topshop, Necklace and Sandals as before

Culottes Jumpsuit - Topshop, everything else as before

I'm not going to lie I had so much fun making this post and so interesting that not one person batted even the slightest eyelash at me taking all of these selfies in the fitting room where as a few years ago everyone would have been looking me up and down wondering who is this narcissistic a-hole taking pictures of herself.

One thing I will say though is Topshop Oxford Circus will you please for the love of all things sacred sort out the aircon in your fitting rooms. I love heat be jeez louise it's like a fricking sauna up in there. Really not pleasant to be in there at all. Ok mini rant over.

I've tried to link as many items as I can as I know I sometimes forget to do so. If you have enjoyed this and would like to see more fitting room selfie lookbooks please thumbs up or leave a comment below. Would be good to know which stores you'd like me to stalk next.

Now as much as I was trying to be oh so good, one of these outfits did find it's way home with me. Can you guess which one it was. To find out keep a look out for my next post, my June Haul, where all will be revealed.

Until next time, have a good one
